Welcome to Crowdy Hall. A dream in the making: a rural off-grid retreat featuring bespoke, hand-crafted cabins, offering a secluded escape in the open countryside of County Durham.
Having sustainability and a care for the environment bred into us from a young age, the family behind Crowdy Hall has always dreamed of creating a place for people to reconnect with nature, appreciate simple living and uncouple from the every busier world that we live in. The Crowdy Hall and Hopper House estates have been in the family for over 100 years. For many years the Crowdy Hall farm house has been empty, however the land has continued to provide crops and been a home to grazing sheep, as well as a offering a tranquil haven. Crowdy Hall is now open to guests, allowing ever more people to enjoy its 200+ acres of pastures and denes.
In this day an age, for so many of us the priority is to just stop, get away from it all, from our phones, social media, computers, to breathe and unwind amongst mother nature. With this in mind, we wanted to create the kind of escape we were constantly craving ourselves… guests could have the freedom to explore, to relax and feel immersed within nature. It gives us great pleasure to open up this magical pocket of land to new guests.
We believe it most important to immerse oneself in the natural environment without the need for extensive landscaping nor fuss. This means wearing wellies and going with the elements.
Having a background in architecture design and the built environment, finding the right individuals to join the team and create sustainable dwellings with the right ethos and building methodology was always key. We believe that experiencing a lighter footprint way of living for a few days will help enhance mental health, appreciation of nature and life’s simple pleasures.
The cabins are completely off-grid, allowing our guests to turn off their mobiles, sit around an open fire, enjoy the stunning natural surroundings, watch sunsets… and breathe.
